Responsibilities
- Develop product and equipment designs from concept sketches to detailed 3D models in SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or NX.
- Produce manufacturing drawings with tolerances and GD&T that suppliers can build to without questions.
- Perform design calculations and FEA to verify strength, stiffness and fatigue performance.
- Apply design for manufacture and assembly to reduce part count and cost.
- Select materials, finishes and standard components with suppliers and cost in mind.
- Build and maintain BOMs, part numbers and revisions in PDM or PLM systems.
- Prototype, test and iterate designs with workshop and test teams.
- Run design reviews and incorporate feedback from manufacturing, quality and sales.
- Investigate field failures and warranty issues and implement design fixes.
- Maintain CAD standards, templates and libraries for the design team.

Requirements
- A mechanical or product design engineering degree and 5 or more years of design experience in manufactured products or machinery.
- Expert in SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or NX, including sheet metal, weldments and surfacing where relevant.
- Familiar with GD&T, tolerance analysis and manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, casting and injection moulding.
- Experience with PDM or PLM systems and engineering change control.
- Clear English for drawings, design reviews and supplier discussions.
- Creative but practical, with a portfolio of designs that made it to production.
- A capable home workstation, reliable high-speed internet and backup power, available during the client's hours.
