Responsibilities

  • Transcription of Medical Dictations:
  • - Listen to recorded dictations by healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and other medical staff.
  • - Transcribe dictations accurately and efficiently into written reports, medical records, or electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Medical Terminology and Formatting:
  • - Understand and interpret medical terminology, abbreviations, and jargon used in dictations.
  • - Ensure correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation in transcribed documents, adhering to formatting and style guidelines.
  • Quality Assurance and Editing:
  • - Review and edit transcribed documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and clarity.
  • - Verify patient information, medical diagnoses, medications, and procedures for consistency and correctness.
  • Compliance and Confidentiality:
  • - Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations and other privacy laws.
  • - Follow security protocols and procedures for handling and safeguarding sensitive patient information.
  • Time Management and Workflow Coordination:
  • - Manage transcription workload efficiently, meeting turnaround times and deadlines for completion.
  • - Prioritize urgent dictations and manage workload fluctuations to ensure timely delivery of transcribed documents.

Requirements

  • - High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a medical transcription training program or certification preferred.
  • - 2+ years of experience in medical transcription or related healthcare documentation roles.
  • - Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, with a strong understanding of medical specialties and procedures.
  • - Excellent typing skills and proficiency in word processing software, transcription software, and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • - Attention to detail and accuracy in transcription, proofreading, and editing medical documents.
  • - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team in a virtual or remote environment.
  • - Strong listening and comprehension skills, with the ability to understand and transcribe diverse accents and speech patterns.
  • - Adaptability and flexibility to learn and use new software tools and technologies for transcription and documentation.
  • - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals and team members.
